As the saying goes ‘The longest journey starts with a single step’. Starting any weight loss journey can feel quite overwhelming. What can I eat? What can’t I eat? How often should I work out? When should I work out? You might experience a range of emotions including fear and doubts. It is completely normal to feel that way. I wanted to share with you a few tips that have really helped me.
Do your research! Think about ways you have already tried to lose weight, why did they not work? Why did you give up? Were they right for you? And always check with a medical professional before starting any kind of plan.
No Deadlines! Setting a deadline for yourself can be a bit of a double-edged sword. One the one hand it can keep you motivated but on the other hand you can put too much pressure on yourself and if the weight is not coming off as quick as you want it too you might give up all together.
Small Goals! Set small realistic goals for yourself. This is a marathon not a sprint, you don’t have to focus on the end goal right away. Setting little targets can give you a great sense of achievement and keep you motivated to do more.
Plan ahead! Once you have decided on a plan to follow grab yourself a diary and plan out your food and work out schedule. Nothing more satisfying then being able to tick off a list!
Why? Defining your why is so important, Think about why you want to lose weight. For some it might be how they look, for some it is wanting to be healthy to be able to run around after their kids in the park. Write down your reasons and keep it somewhere safe and any time you feel a little down and lacking in motivation remind yourself why you started in the first place.
So just a few little tips on getting started, if you have any tips I would love to hear them so feel free to comment below!
I love your tips. I found your blog through another blog that I’m following. I too am on a weight loss journey. I find a lot of your tips and advice very helpful and would love to quote you on some of my own blogs and for a weight loss group I belong to on Facebook. I’m following the Optifast program, intensive level. So far I’ve lost over 60 kilograms in 9 months. Looking forward to reading more of your blog.
